The Builder for August 25th

Our Kiwanis Korn Roast

Kiwanians, family and friends gathered together on a beautiful summer's evening at our Whispering Pines Campground. Some fifty people young and old, enjoyed fun, food and fellowship on Thursday evening. Our social director PE/PLG Linda Van Aalst and her crew of volunteers made our annual corn roast a success again this year.

Chef PP John McLachlan with sidekick grillmaster Kees Van Aalst, along with many other Ks, kept the food coming so that no one went away hungry. We dined on corn, burgers, sausages and ice cream bars, covering all the summer food groups...PP John will soon be sending out a sign up sheet for Ribfest so get ready for a great fun-raising event.

Our Kiwanis Korn Roast would not have been complete without our firepit and pot set up by K Gord Harris and K Steve Sired.

It was a pleasure to see Honorary Kiwanian Mae Kuhl (PP Arnold) and Bernice Ackermann (K Hermann) present at our gathering. Thanks goes to President Bob Miller for making that happen. PP Arnold was the driving force behind our corn roasts for many years.

Arnold's cooking pot is a reminder to us of his devotion to our club and his unwavering commitment to helping others. His dedication to volunteerism is truly missed. Have you read the garden poem in Arnold's honour on our website?

A special thank you to Elizabeth Harris and Linda Gignac for leading the fun games before dinner. The many children and grandchildren present certainly enjoyed their efforts.

Thanks to the K Phil Gigac, DPP Gail Norris, K Sean McMurray, K Alex Morris and K Gord Harris for supplying those energetic youngsters.

The children enjoyed the games, ice cream bars and toasting marshmallows over the coals at the end of our dinner.
