Kiwanis Builder for December 8th

Eighteen Kiwanians gathered at Stonetree for lunch to hear about our Regional Recreation Centre. Our guest speakers, introduced by Kiwanian Jim McManaman, were the CEO from the Family Y, Gayle Graham and local businessman Bill Van Wyck, a member of the Rec Centre Capital Campaign Team.

Speakers' Corner

The new $38.6 million regional recreation centre under construction in Owen Sound’s Victoria Park has become an exciting new initiative in the life of our city. Through the hardwork and determination of a number of volunteers the dream is coming to fruition.

The centre comprises of two NHL-sized arenas and a new Family Y. The Y aquatic centre includes a competition-sized pool and a separate, warm water pool for beginning swimmers. This will allow for therapeutic and fitness opportunities previously not available.

This exciting Regional Recreation Centre will provide health, wellness and recreational opportunities for the residents of Grey and Bruce counties for years to come.

Past Governor Gary Levine had the pleasure of presenting a Champions for Children Hat to Kiwanian Ted Horton. Individual members who donated $500 toward the HIV aids project received a recognition ball hat. Those members who each donated were PG Gary, Kiwanian Ted, LGE Gail Norris and Kiwanian Julia Levine.
Congratulations to Kiwanian Marion Koepke who received a President's Rose from P Linda Van Aalst. She was praised for her willingness to pitch in to help. Her recent effort was assisting with the Santa Claus Parade. As a new member, she is eager to help out whenever she can. Thanks K Marion!

Past Governor Gary Levine was surprised and honored to receive a Kiwanis International Walter Zeller Fellowship Award from Dr. Button on November 24th. Walter Zeller was the first Kiwanian to ever make a donation to create the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada. We know him as the founder of Zellers.

PG Gary received the award as a special thank you for graciously donating his talent and untold business hours to create an Eliminate promotional video for KI. Congratulations PG Gary for continuing to Serve the Children of the World.
