A Message from our District Trustee
May I take this opportunity to wish all members in the Kiwanis Clubs located in Region B a Happy New Year! I also want to encourage you to grow the membership in your Club, to continue the efforts you make as a Club and as a Club member to serve the children both locally and globally. It has been four months since the start of another year in our Kiwanis work!
DST Jim Steele sent out a very complete 1st Quarter Review in December. Please take a moment to review this informative report at your next board meeting.
I am very pleased to recognise that DPLG Bob Bogardis has submitted his Letter of Intent for the Trustee role, which will become available October 1, 2018. If more than one member of Region B, wishes to run for the position, then there will be an election, which will be held in May of 2018 at a RCM meeting.
Each of the Clubs in the District has a "signature project", a project that the Kiwanis Club is known for in their community. The ECC District is encouraging Clubs to enter their signature Club project to the ECC District Signature Contest! All entries will be judged and three winners will be chosen. The winner of the Contest will have their project featured on the District Website and one winner will be chosen and recognised as the ECC Signature Project of the Year at the District Convention in Montego Bay. The winning project for ECC will be forwarded to KI as the District's entry in KI's 2018 Signature Project.
For further information on the Signature Project, go to: http://www.kiwanis.org/clubs/member-resources/serviceprojects/signature-projects.
My husband Brian McKeown, Chair of the District Convention and I travelled to Jamaica in December, where Brian met with the Montego BAy Host Committee. We had the opportunity to stay at the Holiday Inn Hotel and to visit the beautiful Convention Centre in Montego Bay.
The Host Committee is working diligently to ensure that the District Convention will be fun, educational and a memorable District Convention in beautiful Jamaica! Conventions provide an opportunity for you as a member and as a Club to have a voice, to meet other Kiwanis members, to take back to your own Club new ideas and to have a vote in choosing leaders for the District.
The ECC Board has a huge responsibility to ensure that our members are informed and we are using tools such as the District Website, the District Newsletter and of course, our LG's in our District to communicate with you.
Should you have questions about my role or suggestions for the district, I would be happy to hear from you.
I wish all Club members in Division 8, continued success in your Kiwanis work and may 2018 treat each of you kindly!
Gail Norris McKeown
ECC District Trustee
