Kiwanis Draw Winner

The Kiwanis Club of Huntsville Muskoka recently wrapped up their 2018 ‘Dinner Anywhere in the World’ draw with a presentation to grand prize winner, Klaus Regert of Utterson. The grand prize included a travel voucher valued at $6500 along with $2000 cash presented by the Kiwanis Club.

The second prize, a two-night stay at Hidden Valley Resort and dinner for two at Birches Restaurant  ($800 value), was won by Heather Wyatt of Brantford. And the third place prize, a dinner for two anywhere in Muskoka (a $300 value), went to Colleen Cribbett of Guelph.

Many thanks to all who participated as the Club raised over $3000 which will be shared with YWCA ‘Girlz Unplugged’ and ‘Boys Quest’ programs as well as Salvation Army’s Youth programs.

On Saturday, May 5th we held our 1st Annual Black Fly Wine Tasting Dinner Night and silent auction. This year it was in support of the Accessible playground at Huntsville Public School. It was an excellent event, raising almost $2000 for the cause.

In June, we supported the Huntsville Theatre Company and their Children’s programme as a sponsor for $200.

Although we did not have any representation at the District Convention in Montego Bay, Jamaica, PLG Rick Brooks was humbled to hear that he was this year’s recipient of the Spirit of Service Award as chosen by Governor Phil Rossy. Congratulations PLG Rick!

July 7th saw the club take on the task of handling all volunteer duties at the Subaru 70.3 Ironman Kids Run in Huntsville. Our members handled registration, parking control, set up the awards, freezies and water at the finish chute for all the kids. Along with the parents, we were there to cheer them on. A great time was had by all and the club received a donation of $2170 for our efforts.

We had two members attend the International Convention in Las Vegas.

We are doing a charity BBQ at Independent Grocers in support of the Staples ‘Back to School Program’ on August 17-19th.

Our membership goal is to reach 30 by the end of December.
