The Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound

Members of our club served up a free lunch to parents and children as well as giving a $20,000 cheque to complete our last installment of our pledge to the SK8 and Bike Park.

Our club has been busy over the past several months cooking up food at events, hosting social events and keeping our campers happy at Whispering Pines.

The photo to the right is the official ribbon cutting ceremony at the opening of the Hibou Wetland Interpretive Trail. Our club was a supporter of this initiative. The Trail was officially opened by Stewart Reid of Community Foundation with Kate McLaren of OSFN and PP Kevin Dandeno of our Kiwanis club. (R)

Our Kiwanis club was a proud to help sponsor a play performed by members of the Reach Centre Grey Bruce. Reach currently offers three full days of programs at the Georgian Shores United Church in Owen Sound. They serve over 25 young adults who experience a diversity of challenges and strengths.

Our club welcomed Mayor Ian Boddy to a luncheon to speak to us about some of the accomplishments of council this past year.

The Mayor acknowledged the enormous contributions made to the City by our club, most especially the recent Sk8 and Bike Park, calling it a " home run". Our final $20 000 payment will be made on August 11th with our club capturing the photo moment for the newspaper and cooking a free lunch for the kids.

Constable Mike Dazé

Community Services Officer Mike Dazé , from the Owen Sound Police Services, spoke to us about the legalization of marijuana and to explain some challenges faced by our government and police forces. Funding, training, departmental coordination and public awareness are all areas of concern.

Interesting speakers are key to a great meeting.

Our club is proud of IT Gary and his volunteer spirit! Team Levine 2018
