The Builder for June 21st

There were sixteen Kiwanians and four guests in attendance at this week's Kiwanis luncheon meeting held at Stone Tree Golf Club. If you were not at the meeting, you missed being inspired by students from OSCVI.

Speakers' Corner

Our speakers were Emma Fuller, Lexy Machan and Jackie Otterbein from OSCVI. They were introduced by K Belinda Bowler. Teacher Greg McKay provided the video of their Mission Trip to Nicaragua.

The trip may have been 15 days away from home but it took months of preparation.  Nurses and pharmacists accompanied the crew.  Each student was responsible to carry two hockey bags of supplies and meds plus their own luggage.  Four medical clinics were established to help the native people.   All of the meds that were taken were recommended by Nicaragua doctors ahead of time.

The Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound gave financial support through our Kiwanis Kids Outreach Program.  The four students gave emotional talks on what the trip meant to them, highlights, cultural shocks and a few fun things that happened along the way.  Each student said it was a life changing experience that may direct their career decisions as they get older.

K Doug Cleverley thanked the students and Greg for their informative presentation.
