The Builder for September 17th

There were 22 Kiwanians and two guests present at our luncheon held at Stonetree Golf and Fitness Club. PE Susan Davey introduced Josephine Donaghey as her guest for today. K Gabe Nowak and K Stew Andrew were our friendly door greeters. K David Kennedy led us in the Objects of Kiwanis. K Kate Walsh was the lucky winner of our draw today. K Ted Horton received his Centennial Medal Pin as part of his award during our 90th Anniversary Dinner celebration.

Speaker's Corner

Kiwanian Jim McManaman introduced our speaker, Festival of Northern Lights Chair, Don McMillan. We were on the cutting edge of the news today as Don explained the idea behind moving the Christmas Tree to the Rec Centre. He articulated his hopes for further light displays at City Hall and a live tree as well.

The Festival of Northern Lights first began in 1987 with this year's lighting on November 13th.

Don went on to speak about their 7o volunteers and the need for more help setting up their many displays. Their lights are stored at a facility provided by the City at Greenwood Cemetery, including the 32 new displays they obtained from their 2012 Trillium Grant. They have applied again this year for help in funding this huge endeavour. We wish them every success!
