The Builder for September 22

News Flash!

At the Division 8 Caucus meeting held in Collingwood on September 24th, our own DPP Gail Norris was unanimously endorsed as Lieutenant Governor Elect for 2012-2013. Be sure to extend your congratulations to DPP Gail on her willingness to continue to serve our great Division.

The Divisional budget for LG/LGE positions for 2011-2012 was approved. The District restructuring provided for a reduced budget model. That's always good news. DPP Gail also presented each club a cheque for over $700, reimbursing our convention seed money and splitting the K store profits. Cha-ching!

Attending Divisional Training in the morning was Secretary Julia Levine, PLG/PE Linda Van Aalst with DPP Gail auditing. They were joined by President Bob Miller and IPG Gary Levine for the afternoon caucus meeting lead by LG John Parker. Our club was well represented to lend our voice to Divisional decisions.

On Friday evening, the Kiwanis Club of Collingwood held a gala dinner in honour of their 65th anniversary. IPG Gary was honoured to be asked to be their guest speaker. As well, it was his priviledge to award two Mel Osbournes on the club's behalf to their Builder's Club teacher sponsor Rob Potter and K Barbara, a hardworking club member.

President Bob and Ann, DPP Gail, IPG Gary and K Julia were in attendance from our club. K Jim and K Doreen Weaver represented the Owen Sound Golden K. President Bob brought congratulations on behalf of our club. Kiwanians PP Reverend Gord and PP Reverend Helen Hume were bid a fond farewell from the Kiwanis Club of Collingwood and a hearty welcome to the Kiwanis Club of Meaford.

Happy Toonies!

PP Andy Drury confessed to a motor bike tour with K Gord Harris through the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Southern United States. Those mountains will never be the same...

K Sean McMurray made a touchdown by taking his 21 year old daughter to the Ann Arbor to watch a football game. Go Wolverines!

K Gord Harris paid a happy toonie to commemorate the Owen Sound Chapter One Kiwanis International Motorcycle club. T-shirts are available at a nominal fee...motorcycles cost more...

K Kerry Lee paid a happy toonie to announce that her nephew got married and her son is engaged. Wedding bells are ringing!

IPG Gary Levine, moved by K Kerry’s announcement paid a happy fiver to announce Mark and Emily’s marriage and to regale us with the hot party that ensued. The story of Mark’s mother-in-law's dress catching fire during the reception festivities is one for the books.

The President's Corner

P Bob Miller spoke about the recent Ribfest and said it was too early to announce if we made any money.  P Bob did say that he and PP John McLachlan were extremely disappointed the club did not get the exclusive sales of french fries as promised. That hurt potential sale profits.

P Bob resent out the club's Timeline for the upcoming months. PE Linda will add to it in the upcoming weeks ahead.

Remember to check your monthly calendar for important dates. It is sent via email at the beginning of each month and also posted on the home page of our website. www.kiwanisowensound.com.
