The Builder for April 12th, 2018
There were twenty-six Kiwanians and eight guests in attendance at our luncheon chaired by our ol' man of the sea, President Don Sweatman. K Steve Sired introduced Tim Brown and Greg Rogers. K Jim McManaman welcomed back Marion Koepke. District Trustee Gail Norris-McKeown hosted her husband PLG Brian. Distinguished President Bob Miller escorted his wife Ann. K Belinda Bowler brought her husband Bill along. K Kelly Haefling was pleased to welcome Ben Salitor.
All were warmly greeted at the door by Director Paul Matthies and Kiwanian Mike Rutherford. Marion Koepke was the lucky draw winner. K Don King is healing and looks forward to you paying him a visit. Do give him a call.
Our club welcomed back Mayor Ian Boddy to our luncheon to speak to us about some of the accomplishments of council this past year.
It was therefore fitting that City Counsellor Kiwanian Travis Dodd introduced the Mayor and Counsellor K Jim McManaman thanked Ian on behalf of the club.
The Mayor acknowledged the enormous contributions made to the City by our club, most especially the recent Sk8 and Bike Park, calling it a " home run".
The Mayor related that the City has saved $800K due to their service review. They have streamlined the development process to attract builders, waiving development fees for new residential starts. Taxes have been lowered for commercial/industrial as well.
Money has been allocated for the Sydenham sewers, the East Bayshore pump station along with renovations to City hall.
The goal set by the growth plan is for Owen Sound to expand to 30 000 people by 2030. We build...
A Fine Time!
Past President Peter Little was the fines master for the travelogue of excuses. Kiwanians paid the price for missing meetings as they journeyed far and wide. The most notable absence was that of our President spending five weeks sailing the ocean. K Jim had a fine time in Disney with his family. DT Gail admitted to a trip to Australia and New Zealand along with two months in Florida. PP Susan Davey spent a month in Mexico with her husband John. K Linda Gignac admitted to two trips while K Ted Horton was awol for a month. We are glad they are all back and ready to go!
International Trustee Travels!
IT Gary has not been idly sitting by the pool in Florida...alas he has been rarely there to relax.
Gary has been working for weeks on new club opening blitzes in Orlando, Denver, Las Vegas, Virginia and Malaysia. Presently, he is at the Board table in Indianapolis.
May will find him working another blitz in Cleveland. This is followed by our ECC convention in Jamaica and then the European District Convention outside of Milan, Italy.
