The Builder for April 17th
There were 25 Kiwanians and 7 guests present at the StonetreeGolf and Fitness Club for our luncheon on Thursday. Our guests were President Gord's wife Elizabeth, PE Paul Strimas' fellow Whispering Pines Manager Greg Rodgers, PLG Linda Van Aalst's husband Kees, K Reta Dimi's husband Brent, K Ted Horton's wife Candy, K John Cottrill's wife Colleen and K Steve Sired's wife Flo. K Paul Kirk and K Ted received a hearty round of applause for their arrival.
Our door greeters were K Paul Matthies and Elizabeth with Mystery Greeter Michelle Kobryn. K Bruce Jobe read the objects of Kiwanis while PP Kevin Dandeno led us in a unique version of Jingle Bells in honour of our Kiwanis Santa Claus Parade discussion. K Paul Matthies was kind enough to donate an American flag to the club to replace the tired one we had. Oh say can you see...our brand new flag!
On November 15th 2014, it will be the 69th Kiwanis Santa Claus Parade. K Reta Dimis was our speaker at lunch explaining the various tasks required to organize a successful parade.
K Reta has had to step down as our parade chair, a position she has held for the past three years, due to time constraints caused by her full time position at Bruce Power. She has created materials that she is most happy to share with the next Kiwanian who is willing to Chair the parade.
K Reta outlined the various areas requiring attention and assistance including advertising, clowns, site and security, float registration and placement, walker wrangling, volunteer coordination, fundraising, booking of bands and correspondence.
President Gord heartily thanked K Reta and her husband Brent for all of their time and effort during the past three years in bringing Santa to the many children who look forward to seeing him every year.
Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

The Kiwanis Club of Orillia has invited our club to join in their 90th anniversary celebration on May 3rd. The dinner will follow our Divisional caucus meeting held in the afternoon. PG Gary Levine, PLG Gail Norris and DS Julia Levine will be attending. Come out and support Orillia's 90th!
Our nomination committee, PG Gary, PLG Linda and PP Andy Drury note that there have been enthusiastic Ks who have willingly let their name stand for election to the Board at our AGM June 5th luncheon. Please let a member of the nomination committee know if you may be interested.
K Russ Pierson, our Kiwanis Care Chair, distributed a get well card for signing to wish DP Eric Crose a speedy return to good health following his stay at St. Michael's hospital.
