The Builder for February 22nd

There were sixteen Kiwanians and three guests in attendance at our luncheon chaired by Distinguished President Bob Miller. All were warmly greeted at the door by Treasurer Fred Druyf and Board Member Paul Matthies. PP Elwood Moore was the lucky draw winner.

Speaker's Corner!

We welcomed back PP John McLachlan to speak about Habitat for Humanity, formed in 1987 in Owen Sound. Their mission is to build houses for low income families to help them break the poverty cycle. The houses are built with volunteer labour and donated materials.

The salaried positions are funded by the income from The ReStore.

The houses are sold to the families at fair market value with an interest free loan. Twenty-five percent of their income is allocated for mortgage repayment.

Families must invest 500 hours of sweat equity into the house before they get the keys.

PP Peter Little thanked John for his excellent talk and presented him with Kiwanis Music Festival donation boxes found in his garage. Cleaning up pays off!

Welcome Aboard!

Our club is proud to welcome our newest member, Warren Elder. K Steve introduced Warren and read an informative bio about him. DP Bob Miller presented K Warren with his Kiwanis pin. K Russ Pierson presented the Builder's apron while PP Peter Little presented the official membership certificate. K Tim Sobie gave him the information folder and his name tag. Welcome aboard!

A Fine Time!

A bike show in Toronto cost PP Gord Harris a couple of toonies. PP Peter donated a happy toonie as his son and daughter-in-law have purchased a new home and have moved out of his! A toonie fine was assessed to K Tim due to a phone interruption.

It was truly a fine time when K Ted Horton made a cheque presention of $10 000 from a family at Saugeen First Nations to our campground. It was their third donation for a total of

$25 000.
