The Builder for February 16th

There were twenty-one in attendance at our luncheon chaired by President Don Sweatman. Among them were guests Scott Lovell introduced by Gord Harris and Barbara Witherspoon attending with her father, PP Jack Tweddle. K Jack expressed his thanks for the club for all their support as he is coping with the loss of his beloved wife, Pat.

All were warmly greeted by Kiwanian Mike Rutherford and Board Member Paul Matthies. Steve Sired was the winner of the lucky number draw.

Business As Usual!

Today's meeting was to bring the club up to date with our many projects and activities as reported by Committee Chairs.

Terrific Kids is part of the Service Leadership program.  It is currently run at Keppel Sarawak, Hillcrest and East Ridge schools.  P Don recently attended East Ridge in place of DP Bob Miller and awarded 52 students noting how many parents and grandparents were in attendance. P Don also goes to Hillcrest regularly while K Rob Hassard looks after Keppel Sarawak assemblies.

K Jim McManaman reports a $14000 in profit in Christmas tree sales with 323 volunteer hours to achieve that!

The parade had a profit of $2000 due to a band not attending. Parade Chair Andy has done a fine job and seeks a replacement...

PP Gord noted our Santa Claus Parade float is in great shape with new Led lights. There is a plan to purchase our own inverter. There is an electric winch put on to raise and lower trailer which is a big help.

Kiwanis Kids Outreach Chair Paul Kirk is in need of a few more committee members.  They have had several requests from schools to sponsor needy students on class trips.  KKO is also involved in the cross-country race providing the ribbons, the Secret Santa initiative, Reach Program and Dental Program through K Guy Chouinard.

Kiwanis Kitchen, under the direction of Chef Michelle Kobryn saw a $2400 profit from July 1 and $8000 from the Chesley Campground. The food committee also had BBQs as well.

Whispering Pines Chair Steve Sired informs us that the washrooms are being prepped for renovations. The planned opening of the park will be May 4th. A sure sign that spring will finally have arrived.

The Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group rent part of WP every year and make a $500 donation to our cause.

Treasurer Fred Druyf and the Finance and Regulatory Affairs Committee report that our banks accounts are in good order. Wakeford & Co are currently closing the books on last year. We have a new strategic plan and budget process in place that takes into account long term projects.  Loose ends are being tied up with the intention of being in compliance with all regulatory bodies.

Jack Flagler  (1948-2018)

We are saddened by the recent loss of Kiwanian Jack Flagler.

K Jack was quick to advertise our events for us. His business was always the place we went to, to pick up our vests for the parade.

Jack believed in helping others through his coat donation program. Many people were kept warm during the cold winter months through his kind initiative. We will remember.
