The Builder for January 25th

There were 18 Kiwanians and five guests in attendance at our luncheon. All were warmly greeted by Kiwanian Mike Rutherford and Board Member Paul Matthies. Guests included Andy Foster from Arden Language Centre with her student Khadija Ismial , Julie Moores from the CVMG club, Warren Elder and Kees Van Aalst. PP Pete Little , K Ted Horton, K Trevor Dodd, K Jim McManaman received applause for their tardy entrance.

President Don Sweatman asked Past President Peter Little to recite the Objects of Kiwanis.

Speaker's Corner!

Our speaker, Andy Foster, was introduced by Kiwanian Tim Sobie. She spoke about the language centre and its three main components: Language , Culture and Community. They meet in the basement of the Alliance Church and have approximately 10 classes ranging in all age groups including many, many parents of immigrant children. They draw from approximately fifty volunteers to help run the Arden centre (which means eager). Andy was thanked by K Travis Dodd.

The Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound was proud to make a donation of $3500 to purchase books for the center.  Stickers will be inserted inside the books recognizing Kiwanis for their contribution. These books are the latest in teaching English to new comers.

K Ted Horton donated his draw winnings to the Arden Centre as well.

One good turn deserves another.

The Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group met again on August 18th to the 20th at our Whispering Pines Campground. In appreciation for the great food and hospitality, Julia Moores, representing CVMG, presented a donation to the club.

A Terrific Service Project!

Our club is sponsoring the Terrific Kids Program in three schools this year. We provide certificates and wristbands to students at Keppel Sarawak, Hillcrest and East Ridge Schools. Students are rewarded for good citizenship and leadership within their school.

A Fine Time!

PP Gord and PP Andy Drury donated to the coffers for attending a Motorcycle show in Toronto . Jim McManaman confessed to a trip to Halifax with his family and reported that they drove non- stop 20 hours to get there. That is a fine unto itself. According to K Jim, the driving was divided up between them. He drove 17 hours and Kelly managed 3...

Care and Concern

Pat Tweddle

We are saddened by the loss of PP Jack Tweddle's wife Pat. She served her family, Kiwanis, her church and her community with integrity and grace.

She supported our club with her hands and her heart.

She touched so many lives with her kindness.

Pat will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
