The Builder for June 1st, 2017

Fifteen Kiwanians were gathered at the Best Western Inn on the Bay for lunch, with President Susan Davey wielding the gavel.

K Mike Rutherford and incoming Treasurer Fred Druyf were the collectors of coin, attendance slips and handshakes at the door.

K Ted Horton was invited to lead us in the Objects of Kiwanis. PP Kevin Dandeno was the lucky draw winner with K Tim Sobie at the helm to levy fines on those who had new cars, stolen cars and trips in cars... DP Bob Miller donated a happy toonie on the event of his 37th anniversary. He regaled us with his tale of how he wangled his first date with Ann...devious indeed!

Speaker's Corner!

President Susan introduced our own International Trustee, Gary Levine, as our guest speaker. Born in Duluth, raised in California, Winnipeg, schooled in Manitoba, Alberta and London, England, it seems fitting Gary is sitting on our International Board.

Gary has served as our Club President, Lieutenant Governor for two terms as well as Governor of the great district of Eastern Canada and the Caribbean. He served as the Formula Chair for ECC until his election as International Trustee.

This past year, as part of his Trustee role, Gary mentored the Texas/Oklahoma, Illinois/Eastern Iowa and the New England Districts. Beginning in August, he will mentor Ohio and Michigan as well as Florida.

For the 2018 International Convention in Las Vegas, IT Gary was endorsed by our ECC house of delegates to run for the position of Kiwanis International Vice-President.

The Board table composition is very diverse linguistically and culturally. Their work focusses on governance, finance, membership growth, promotion and supporting clubs. The convention is in Paris in July.

PP Kevin Dandeno thanked IT Gary for helping us understand the global nature of our organization and how we are a key part of that.

Kiwanis International Board representing 50 Districts around the world. Attending the meetings are 15 Trustees, the Board Executive with staff on the perimeter.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

P Susan Davey, PE Don Sweatman, PP Kevin, Board Member Sean McMurray and DS Julia Levine have finalized our club's I-Plan. It is a five year overview of membership, service projects, finance and promotion.

In the discussion, it was evident that our club has many items already strongly in place. From our numerous service projects and installations around the City, Kiwanis is well known for our support for the children of our area.

Our Whispering Pines Campground washroom project has been completed! Club members were able to see the great results last week at the WP committee meeting. The camp is the main fundraiser for our club.

On June 17th, executive members from Division 8 will gather in Barrie to attend incoming Lieutenant Governor Stephanie Worthington's club leadership training. The meeting will be held at the Kiwanis meeting room in Barrie at 10 a.m.

Conducting the training will be Past Lieutenant Governor Linda van Aalst. DS Julia and K Fred will attend to represent our club. Any others memebers are most welcome to attend.

The training is informative and you have a chance to meet Kiwanians from Orillia and Barrie as well. If you are interested in joining us, please contact DS Julia.
