The Builder for June 2nd

There were 24 Kiwanians present for our election of officers to our Board. International Trustee Gary Levine wielded the gavel for President Bill Sornberger who was out of town. PP John Prettie kept our singing voices on track while GK PP Jack Tweddle was asked to read the Objects of Kiwanis.

PE Susan Davey and newly elected Board member Paul Matthies greeted members at the door. PLG Linda van Aalst was acclaimed, as well, to sit on the board.  Treasurer Paul Kirk was endorsed and Julia Levine was asked to serve once again as Secretary. The club wishes to thank K Alex Morris and PP Andy Drury for their service on the Board as they step off.  K Paul M. was rewarded for his willingness to serve the club by winning the  lucky number draw.

We are hoping that a club member will step forward to follow Susan as President of our club for 2017-2018. Thus far, despite phone calls, meetings and pleading...we have not had anyone volunteer. Please contact IT Gary should you be willing to serve.

As DS Julia is away a great deal, she is hoping a member may wish to be co-secretary with her. Please contact her if interested. DS Julia

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

K David Kennedy sweetened everyone's day by presenting members with timbits to promote their Donut Day, June 3rd. This is a special event that the Salvation Army is undertaking in the city for the first time. It is a thank you to the community for their support of the organization. In honour of this, our fines collected today were donated to the Salvation Army.

Our incoming President, Susan Davey, announced that a club photo op will be taking place soon, as part of a media release of our generous donation of $125 000 to the Kiwanis Children's Playroom at Chapman House. The date and time have yet to be announced. She also presented a review of her time at the recent convention in Hamilton, her training, her SLP concerns and KI initiatives.

The Kiwanis International Convention is being held in Toronto from June 23rd to the 25th. The Board has asked that any club member wishing to attend the convention as our second club delegate, please submit their name to Julia. In the event, more than one person wishes to attend, a name will be drawn. A delegate receives reimbursement for their travel, hotel and convention fees.

A Fine Time!

Regional Trustee Gail Norris received a round of applause for her engagement to PLG Brian McKeown from the Stamford Club in Niagara Falls. She donated to the coffers as she has acquired a new vehicle to transport her back and forth to visit Brian.

K Ted Horton heard applause for his late arrival but alas K Jim McManaman heard none as he was confused with the grounds keeper... K Sean McMurray and K Doug Cleverly were both proud of their daughter's post secondary accomplishments. PP Kevin Dandeno had a wonderful trip to Vancouver Island to visit his daughter. K Joanne Horton was pleased to take part in a 60th wedding anniversary in Sarnia while our own PP John Prettie just celebrated 42 years with his wife, Val. Kudos all around!
