Speaker's Corner!

L to R: P Susan and speaker Tim

PLG Linda van Aalst introduced our speaker, Tim Nicholls-Harrison.

Tim is the senior Librarian at the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library in Owen Sound.  Tim gave us an excellent overview of how the library has adapted to and embraced the 21st century.  He stressed that in order to participate in all of what the library has to offer you need a library card current to the year.  Outdated cards are of no use to you.  With a card you can sign out videos, music, educational tutorials, digital equipment and even seeds for free.

Tim had a slide show that gave great detail on the types of programs and events available to card holders.  You don’t have to be at the library to access the information.  You can connect with Wi-Fi and reap the benefits and services.  There are 14 computers at the library for public use.  Tim said that over 270,000 “visits” were made to the library last year.  The library is a welcoming common space that encourages learning, exploring, creativity and sharing using all of the electronic gadgets available.  All online resources are free if you have a valid library card. The goal of the library is to keep information at your fingertips.

PP Gord Harris thanked Tim for his informative talk that enlightened many of us to what we have been missing by not obtaining an active library card.

Welcome to Our Newest Kiwanian!

Tim Sobie was introduced by his sponsor PPPE Don Sweatman.

An explanation of each item of the Kiwanis Induction Regalia was provided.

K Stew Andrew presented Tim with his Builder’s Apron. PP Elwood Moore presented Tim with is Kiwanis Certificate. K Don King gave Tim his Kiwanis information kit and name badge.

President Susan Davey gave Kiwanian Tim Sobie his Kiwanis pin and officially welcomed him as our newest club member.

A Fine Time!

Sheriff Gord Harris fined PPPE Don Sweatman because he signed K Tim’s apron before it was given to him.
