     The Builder for May 25th

There were 16 Kiwanians and 4 guests in attendance at our Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound dinner held at the Best Western, Inn on the Bay. Kiwanians Fred Druyf and Paul Matthies were our friendly door monitors. President Susan Davey greeted our guests in attendance: PLG Brian McKeown, John Davey, Linda Matthies and Karen Drury. Kiwanian Stew Andrew led us in the Objects of Kiwanis.

DS Julia was the lucky number draw winner and donated it back to our Maternal and Neonatal Fund. Money is still being collected to help reach our global project goal of 110 million dollars. Our club has exceeded our Model Club status donation. Children still need our help. PE Don Sweatman and K Tim Sobie were the fine masters.

District Trustee Gail Norris-McKeown presented President Susan with Governor Ure's District Distinguished Club patch for 2015-2016.

Convention Mention!

President Susan Davey, President Elect Don Sweatman, DS Julia Levine and District Trustee Gail Norris-McKeown shared their experiences from last week's convention. From the 427 Kiwanians and guests in attendance, to workshops on leadership, finance, growth, caucus meetings, elections and social gatherings, it was a convention like no other.

The Bahamian Junkanoo headdress on the left was given to International Trustee Gary Levine at the Eastern Canada and Caribbean Convention in Ottawa after their vibrant junkanoo costume parade presentation. This was followed by a boisterous singing and dancing routine from Jamaica. It gives you a sense of the diverse nature of our District.

Bobby Moo Young from the Montego Bay Club in Jamaica was elected as our incoming Governor for 2017-2018. We are honoured to welcome him to our club on October 12th. The District Convention will be held in Montego Bay next May. Mel Clarke from the Bahamas is our Governor Elect while Robert Spellen from Aruba is our Vice Governor.

Hot Off The Press!

The election of officers for our club for the year 2017-2018 was conducted by International Trustee Gary Levine. We are very grateful for those who have served on our board this past year and to those who are willing to take on a leadership role on our behalf in the year to come.

We gave a warm round of applause to President Elect Don Sweatman for stepping into the role of President next year and to President Susan as she will remain on the Board as Past President. DS Julia will continue as President Don's secretary for 2017-2018. Treasurer Paul Kirk was warmly thanked for his years of faithful service as treasurer. He will continue on the Board at this time as VP. We heartily welcome K Fred for volunteering to step into the position of club treasurer.

Our Board of Directors for next year, along with their term limits are:

Sean McMurray: 2018

John Cottrill: 2018

Linda van Aalst: 2019

Paul Matthies: 2019

Kevin Dandeno: 2020

Eric Crose: 2020

Russ Pierson: 2020

Currently we do not have our President Elect position filled. If you have board experience, we need you! We are all here to lend you our support so please step up.
