The Builder for November 19th
There were eighteen Kiwanians and two guests in attendance at our dinner meeting held at Stonetree Golf and Fitness Club. President Bill Sornberger wielded the gavel and welcomed K Ted Horton's wife Candy and PP Andrew Drury's guest Karen Conley. PE Susan Davey, along with Kiwanian Paul Matthies greeted each Kiwanian at the registration table. K Jack Tweddle had his new member apron available for signing. Is your name on it yet?
K Dr. Gilbert Howey led us in the singing of O Canada with PP Gord Harris reciting the Objects of Kiwanis. DS Julia Levine won the lucky number draw and donated her winnings to our Elminate Fund. For every dollar donated, the Canadian Government will match it. K Russ Pierson was our fines collector.
Kiwanis Parade Chair, PP Andrew Drury brought us up to date on the committee's plans for our 70th event. There will be 70 floats, two horse drawn wagons, stilt walkers, six bands, clowns, along with the special appearance of Santa himself!
PP Andy deserves a medal for heading up the parade again... and a medal he got.
Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Christmas Tree Chair Jim McManaman is asking for help on Tuesday, November 24th in setting up the tree lot. This is physically demanding work for those who are able. We will have 700 trees for sale this year which is an increase due to taking over tree stock from Walkers.
You are encouraged to add your name to the doodle for as many shifts as you can, whether it's for setting up trees or being available to take money.
Sign up on our Tree Lot Signup Sheet. Pick out your own tree while you are there.
We congratulate PG Gary, as he is throwing his hat in the ring for the position of Kiwanis International Trustee. His candidacy was approved at the last Divisional Caucus meeting. He is launching his campaign website which has now been translated into both official languages.
Thus far, there are three candidates in the running to represent Eastern Canada and Caribbean District at the International Board table. PG Hazel Brandon from Surinam, PG Serge Viao from Sault Ste. Marie and PG Gary, all will be vying for this position at the Hamilton Convention, May 12-14. Please let PG Gary know if you would like to help with his campaign. The only other person from our Division 8 to ever have been elected to the International Board has been our club's own, Ray Allen. Congratulations PG Gary on your willingness to step forward!
The Kiwanis Club of Meaford extended an invitation to our club to attend a recent dinner meeting with a speaker from the Make a Wish Foundation. PLG Linda van Aalst and DS Julia were able to attend on our club's behalf in support of our fellow Kiwanis Club.
