The Builder for November Days

The Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound was proud to bring Santa Claus to town for the 72nd time. Chair Andrew Drury, his wife Karen and the whole team worked hard to bring smiles to the faces of the children as the parade passed by.  From parade marshaling to float judging, organizing vehicles and wrangling entries, the spirit of Christmas was ignited once again.

A big smile and a honk of the nose goes out to all of the merry band of clowns that help to brighten up the parade. Special kudos go out to Elisabeth Harris, Mary Lou Strimas, Mike and Suzanne Rutherford and the many others who were willing to help out.

No Christmas could be complete without elves pitching in. Jen Ireland was head elf, aided by Laura Melton and her cheerful crew. A big thank you for carrying banners in the parade and lightening our load.

A Bunch for Lunch!

There were 14 Kiwanians greeted at the door by K Mike Rutherford and Board Director Paul Matthies on November 23rd at the Inn on the Bay. Special guests were Stuart Reid with Gregory Keleher and Vikita Pawar from Sunlife Financial. K Jim McManaman and PP Elwood Moore were Tug'O War lucky draw winners. K Steve Sired was the Sargent at Arms levying President Don a $10 trip tax for his Caribbean sailing excursion and K Ted Horton $20 for his time in Hawaii.

K Rob Hassard introduced our guest speaker of the day, Stuart Reid. Stuart is the Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Grey and Bruce. Many Kiwanians will have remembered Stuart as the former Director of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery from 2001 to 2009.

Recently, Stuart was at Brock University in St. Catharines as director of Rodman Hall Art Centre. We are pleased that he has returned to Owen Sound once again.

Created in 1994, the Community Foundation Grey Bruce assists Grey and Bruce communities through endowment building, grants and community partnerships. The Foundation manages over 15 million dollars in assets. Stuart was thanked for speaking to us by K Jim McManaman.
