Twenty-one Kiwanians and six guests joined together to give a warm welcome to the Governor for Eastern Canada and Caribbean, Bobby Moo Young and his wife Josie. We also welcomed several special guests, including Past Governor Chuck McIlravey and his wife, K Dorothy. Jean-Ann Sabiston, a friend of K Penny Garvin and PP Jack Tweddle's wife Pat. Special recognition was given to PP Elwood Moore on his 96th birthday and 58th year in the club!

PP Elwood Moore is congratulated by PP Susan Davey and the entire club.

Our newest Kiwanian Flo and K Steve Sired listened to Governor Bobby outline his goals for the upcoming year

K Jim was presented with his 6 year perfect attendance pin.

IT Gary introduced his good friend Governor Bobby from Montego Bay, Jamaica as our guest speaker. We were honoured to be Governor Bobby's first visit during his year of service.

Governor Bobby spoke about the urgent need for all Kiwanis Clubs to grow their membership and that it is critical to establish new clubs. Members need to be engaged to retain them in our organization and we must reach out to invite those who would join if they were asked.

He also congratulated our Club on the wonderful work we have done thus far for the children in our community. He spent the morning and afternoon touring several K sites to have a sense of what we have accomplished.

He reminded us of our ECC convention in his home town at the Holiday Inn Resort in Montego Bay. He hopes to see us all there. Registration opens in January.

Governor Bobby shared the dire need for assistance in the Caribbean in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. PLG Linda thanked Governor Bobby and along with P Don were pleased to present him with a cheque for $2500 toward the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada Hurricane Relief Fund. For every two dollars we donate, the Foundation will match it with another dollar. We urge all Kiwanians to consider donating to our Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound Foundation which will then direct the funds to KFC and you will receive a tax donation receipt.

The Kiwanis Soccer Fields hosted the Cross Country running event for the BWDSB elementary schools. Governor Bobby was present to witness the hundreds of children participating and he was so pleased to see so many parents out supporting their children. Our Kiwanis Club provided the ribbons for this event.

IT Gary was pleased to accompany Governor Bobby, Josie and P Don on the tour of our Kiwanis funded facilities in our City. The tour included visiting our accessible playground at Harrison Park, our SK8 and Bike park, along with Chapman House.

Keeping our Members in Mind...

Please keep K Lorne Rich in your thoughts as he is struggling with health issues at this time as well. He has had a recent operation and will be receiving treatment in Toronto to follow.

We continue to send best wishes to K Don King who is undergoing treatment as is Pat Tweddle. We hope PP John is feeling better after his surgery as well.
